Valentine's Day Card Contest:

The Valentine's Day Card contest is open to all Fair Lawn children in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Children are asked to design their best "Be My Valentine" card. The back cover must contain the contestant's name, grade, school and telephone number. Contestants are encouraged to use any creative materials in designing their special "Valentine's Day Card". Winners receive a $25.00 bank check and a gift for their Valentine.

Breakfast with the Easter Bunny:

This event is a wonderful opportunity for children to meet the Easter Bunny in a passive, but fun-filled environment. The program begins with a buffet style breakfast, coloring sheets with crayons and special table treats. The arrival of our special guest is followed by raffles and a "guess the number of jelly beans" contest. Bring your own camera for plenty of photo opportunities and we ask that you bring your own booster seat. There are two seatings available at the Fair Lawn Athletic Club. Sorry no walk-ins will be accepted.

Mother's Day Card Contest:


A Mother's Day Card Contest for all children in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Each child will make up their own specialized card for their Mom, included will be a cover and inside a personal greeting of three reasons why your mom is the best! The back cover will include contestant's name, grade, telephone number and school.

Category 1 - Grades K and 1
Category 2 - Grades 2 and 3
Category 3 - Grades 4 and 5
 
Winner receives a $25.00 bank check and a bouquet of flowers for their mother.
 

Memorial Day Parade:

The annual Memorial Day parade is held on Monday, May 27, 2019. The Parade begins at 10:30 a.m. from Pollitt Drive to Fair Lawn Avenue to River Road to Berdan Avenue, and down the Avenue of Heroes in Memorial Park. All military, civic, volunteer and service groups are welcome to participate on this "special day". There will be a separate assembly site for boys/girls scouts who have registered with the Recreation Department. Ceremonies will follow at the circle at the Avenue of Heroes after the parade concludes.

Father's Day Card Contest:


This contest is open to all Fair Lawn children in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Each child is required to make up their own specialized card for their father, relevant guardian or special male figure in their lives. All cards must include a cover, an inside personal greeting stating 3 reasons why your dad is the best and a back cover. The back cover must contain the contestant's name, grade, school and telephone number. Contestants are encouraged to use any creative materials in designing their special "Father's Day Card".
 
Category 1 - Grades K and 1
Category 2 - Grades 2 and 3
Category 3 - Grades 4 and 5

Winner receives a $25.00 bank check and a gift for their father.


Fireworks Show:

The Fair Lawn Fireworks Show is scheduled for Monday, July 1, 2019 at Memorial Park, Berdan Avenue and 1st Street, commencing between 9:00 p.m. - 9:15 p.m. The skies will glow with a multitude of colorful designs and explosions will be heard to honor America's freedom. Bring your family, friends, blankets or lawn chair to Memorial Park. Early arrivals will be treated to music. For your convenience vendors will be on location to sell food and drink for your pleasure and enjoyment. Ticket information will be announced in the beginning of summer.

Columbus Day Voyage Ships & Poem Contest:


Fair Lawn Holiday Celebrations Committee, in cooperation with the Knights of Columbus, Cosmos Club and Recreation Department sponsor this contest.

Rules

  1. Open to all Fair Lawn students only.

  2. One voyage ships entry per child.One poem entry per child. You can enter both voyage ships and poem contest.

  3. When Columbus came to the Americas, the realization of the "New World" opened up all sorts of possibilities to the Spanish. Re-create Christopher Columbus' three (3) ships, the Niña, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria, that he used to voyage from Spain to North America in 1492. Contestants can use any sort of imaginative materials (crayons, markers, paper cutouts, cardboard, etc.) to create the three magnificent ships.

  4. Poems must be printed and contain no more the 175 words or exceed 32 lines. Poems can be in free verse or rhymed. Poems must be an original creation, unique and reference Columbus’s voyage.

  5. Voyage ships and poems must be submitted to the Fair Lawn Recreation Department located at 10-10 20th Street between the hours of 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. by Wednesday, October 3. Contestants should write their name, address, phone number, school, and grade on the back of the voyage ships and/or the back page of the poem. Poems should be placed in a sealed envelope with the contestant’s name and grade on the front. All voyage ships and poems become the property of the Holiday Celebrations Committee, but may be claimed immediately by the contestants following the awards presentation.

  6. Winners will be announced at the Columbus Day program on Monday, October 8 at the Knights of Columbus, 16-16 Maple Avenue, Fair Lawn, NJ 07410. Free entertainment and refreshments will be provided.All parents and contestants are invited.The program begins at 7:30 p.m.For further information, call the Fair Lawn Recreation Department at (201) 796-6746 between 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday.

Halloween Costume Parade:

This event will take place in October and has the luxury of using the spacious and tree lined area around beautiful Memorial Park. Children and adults are asked to assemble in costume behind the Memorial Pool bathhouse at 10:00 A.M. The parade begins at 10:30 A.M. led by a police car and the Holiday Celebrations Committee Grand Marshal. The parade continues down the Avenue of Heroes and around Memorial Pool to the main concession stand. All participants receive a full size Halloween treat bag that can be used for trick or treating on Halloween plus treats already inside! Free donuts and cider will be given out and costume prizes will be awarded. In case of rain, event is held inside at Memorial Middle School.

Christmas:

Town Hall Lighting and Caroling: Fair Lawn Municipal Building, Fair Lawn Avenue. This special holiday event is scheduled for December 3, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. and will feature the caroling of the Fair Lawn girl and boy scouts. Santa Claus will arrive at the Fair Lawn Municipal Building to help with the official lighting of the building. All children will be able to see Santa and will receive candy canes or chocolate coins. Bring your camera!! In case of inclement weather, Santa will still be inside the building to see children.

Santa Claus Telephone: Weekday evenings starting December (calls are made between 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.). One magical evening this holiday, Santa Claus will contact the children in the town of Fair Lawn directly by telephone. Parents are encouraged to fill out the form and return it early. Santa will be making his calls continually throughout the two-week period to guarantee he finds out who is naughty and who is nice.

Breakfast with Santa Claus:
 December at the Fair Lawn Athletic Club, 9:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. seatings will be available for breakfast with Santa. All seatings are on a first come, first served basis. Cost is $ for adults and $ for children ages 5-12. Children 4 and under are admitted free with a paid parent. Please bring your own booster seat. Breakfast features a buffet style spread. Includes a special visit by Santa Claus, holiday stocking raffle and plenty of surprise treats for all.  Sorry no walk-ins will be accepted.
